New Demiurge Studios Logo

Demiurge Studios has a new logo! Just so there's no confusion, if you see this fancy new logo, you're still looking at the same old (new) Demiurge Studios. We're still in the process of rolling out a new website to go along with the logo, as well as updating it in all of the places it's floating around the interwebs. Pardon our dust - there's a lot in the mill over here!

Snowball Fight at Lunch

On this very snowy day in Cambridge, we decided to have a snow adventure at lunchtime. Here's the way our building looks when heaps of snow are poured onto it.

We went to the park around the corner and had a snowball fight! Here we are running amok...

It was all fun and games until the big snowballs started flying. Katie's hiding from the impending doom.

Hadouken!

Snow is just as much fun as video games, we soon discovered. And then we were covered in it.

The end.

And the Winner is Dan!

It was a tough call this year, but after much deliberation the team has determined that Dan is the clear winner of this year's Xmas Xmustache competition. Congratulations, Dan! (We're pretty sure that the illustration below by Nick helped give him the competitive edge that led to his ultimate and glorious victory.)

Our ten other contestants received official mustache pins for participating, but only Dan gets the grand prize - the coveted Mustache Mug. It will serve as a daily reminder to all of his superior facial hair growing expertise.

The office is (mostly) clean-shaven once again. Until next year, Xmustache. We will miss you.

Christmustache 2011

Just as promised, Demiurgers arrived at work on Monday morning donning freshly grown mustaches, for our annual Xmas Xmustache competition. As Alex put it before our holiday break, “The rules are simple: Show up January 3rd with the most kickass mustache you can grow. Last year's contest was the closest we've ever had: Dan brought artistry back to the competition with his entry 'Dirtbag in Paradise' but in the end Nick and Jared tied for the victory with their dueling mugshots.”

As always, mustaches will be judged according to the official rules laid out by the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Alex's annual Q&A can be found at the bottom of this post, for further clarification. We will announce a winner once Demiurgers have had enough time to ponder the fabulous photos below, evidence of the hard work and expertise necessary to create these works of facial hair art.

Frequently Asked Questions by Alex Rice:

Q: What do I tell my family when they ask why I have a moustache for the family Christmas picture?

A: "I'm considering moving to Brooklyn and I was afraid my face wasn't ironic enough" "I'm trying out for a community theater production of 'Magnum PI: The Musical'" "This anti-moustache sentiment is all part of the liberal war on Christmas. Go back to Russia, commie!"

Q: If I grow a moustache, can I finally wear my "Free Moustache Rides" trucker hat without feeling lame?

A: Yep, now it will just be creepy...

Q: Do you have any advice on growing a moustache?

A: Step 1 - Man Up. If you are unable or unwilling to do that, follow this helpful guide.

Q: What will the terrorists do if I don't grow a moustache?

A: Win

In addition to the pure joy one gets from wearing a moustache, the winner of this competition will receive eternal glory in the annals of Demiurge, the admiration of hipsters everywhere, and an incredible prize yet to be named.

Holiday Fun

Our annual Demiurge Holiday Party was totally awesome! We wish you all could’ve been there! Oh man, there was delicious food and fantastic company! Here’s the lowdown of how we celebrate the holidays here at Demiurge.

First of all, some of us wear ugly sweaters and other tacky holiday garb, just to get into the spirit of things.

Every year we have a barbeque feast for everyone to share at lunch. This year we ordered from Redbones. Their mac and cheese and baby back ribs are favorites, for sure! The vegetarians in the house (represent!) were treated to wholesome goodness from a new restaurant in Central Square called Life Alive, so there was something for everybody. (Wow, we blog and tweet about food way too much, huh?)

Once our bellies were full it was time for presents! Every year we have a Yankee Swap. Our team has a great sense of humor, and we therefore purchase gifts accordingly. Our only rule was an $11 price cap. Some of our favorites were (in no particular order)...

The Shake Weight (We’re pretty sure it was over the 11 dollar limit, but we’ll let that slide.)

A nerf gun (This one was swapped for several times, even over a bottle of liquor. We are nerds.)

An old ziplock bag full of pennies (Not swapped for… ever.)

StickMan™

Adventures in Babysitting (Elizabeth Shue’s finest work.)

Chia Scooby-Doo

Kung Zhu Batt
le Hampster

Some pickles

A mustachioed toy bunny named Labbit

Speaki
ng of mustaches... The last week of the year is fast approaching. And y’all know what that means: Xmas Xmustache! Check back in early January for results of our annual facial hair growing contest.
